Greetings from Blackenbrook Vineyard on this stunning Autumn Morning.
Mother Nature threw us some extra challenges this year with the extremely wet Spring and start of Summer creating an ideal breeding ground for vine-diseases.
But Daniel and his Team managed to keep our canopy healthy and working at its best by putting huge efforts into leaf-plucking, mowing and preventative sprays.
With the early drop in temperature (and the first snow appearing on the Ranges!), ripening happens at snail’s pace, testing the patience of winemakers up and down the Country. But on the positive side we hope for great flavour development and physiological ripeness at a lower sugar level, translating into lower alcohol wines.
For our Gewürztraminer 2009 Bob Campbell has this to say:
”A lush, intense and rather Alsace-style Gewurztraminer in a medium/dry style. I love the power and flavour persistence of this characterful wine. It's a medley of classic rose petal/potpourri and spice/ginger flavours. Richly textured wine with an incredibly lengthy finish. “ - Bob Campbell MW
Wow, how amazing to see our Gewurztraminer on Spot No 4 of Bob Campbell’s Top 10 New Zealand Gewürztraminers, published in the March issue of Taste Magazine.
Bob Campbell rates New Zealand as the world's second-best Gewürztraminer provenance, trailing only the famous Alsace-Region in France! What a remarkable statement – who knows, Gewürztraminer might become the hip New Zealand wine of the future?
After almost eight months in bottle, our 2010 Reserve Pinot Noir and Montepulciano are finally ready to shine. The 2010 vintage was fantastically warm and settled, creating assertive Reds bursting with power and concentration.
Heading into the cooler season, we are offering tempting Specials on our acclaimed Gewürztraminer 2009, the newly released Reserve Pinot Noir 2010 and Montepulciano 2010 and our popular Sauvignon Blanc 2011.
