Gemtree Vineyards, Uncut Shiraz

Product Description

Shiraz has been the jewel in McLaren Vale's crown for more than 150 years. Gemtree's Uncut is testament to the suitability of the variety in McLaren Vale and the founders of Gemtree Vineyards, Paul and Jill Buttery.

Four decades ago the Buttery family planted their first McLaren Vale vineyard, more recently bottling the very best parcels from their 360 acres under the family owned Gemtree label.

Uncut is made from Shiraz fruit, hand selected from the family's 40 year old "Tatty Road" block tended by viticulturist Melissa Brown (nee Buttery). The simultaneous ripening of flavour, sugar and tannin in the fruit has resulted in a wine which shows remarkable balance early in the aging process.

Uncut Shiraz was vinified by Melissa's husband and winemaker Mike Brown. Simple crushing, natural open fermentation and gentle pressing into French and American oak barriques for 16 months before minimal fining and filtration is the key to preseving the vineyard character of Gemtree's Uncut Shiraz.
