About Us
"Elmslie" started out life around 1972 with 0.75Ha of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon planted, with a further 0.75Ha of Cabernet Sauvignon planted a couple of years later. In 2000 the property was purchased by the existing owner's. We then went on what you might call a long term expansion. We spent the first couple of year's re-building the trellis, irrigation system and a lot of time learning about grape vines and how too grow high quality fruit. In September 2005 we started expanding our vineyard by planting 0.5Ha of Sauvignon Blanc, 1.0Ha of Pinot Noir and 0.5Ha of Shiraz. At the same time we were going through the process of building a winery to enable us to go, literally from "Berry to Bottle". We have a wonderfully dedicated staff(plus management as they like to say) that keep the entire site looking terrific and it is a credit to them. In the mean time we have added about half a hectare more of Pinot,Shiraz and Chardy.(More to come).Cheer's Rob

Well here we are 2 weeks later and we are still waiting patiently to pick. The weather has been very second rate to say the least. We thought we could start picking the Pinot two weeks ago.Oh how wrong we were.We started to pick Block 1 only to find very sour and under ripe patches all through the blo...
What a dreadful couple of day's weather we have had. We decided on Tuesday that Friday would be picking day for our Pinot,my, how quickly thing change!!!. Early yesterday we suffered some of the wildest weather we have had to cope with in many years(for this time of year) and then today was very ord...
We had a look at our fruit today after a pretty nice easter period. The weather was great "cool climate". Our Pinot is running at 25 "bricks", the Cabernet at 22 , as is the Savvy, whilst the Shiraz is at 19. we are aiming to pick the Pinot on Friday (weather permitting). The forecast is ordinary fo...
Well... Here we are 8 day's later and we are still a week from away from picking. The Pinot is around 23 "bricks" so late next week is starting to look good. With the current weather conditions the canopy will stand up for quite a few weeks, allowing us to let it "hang" and intensify the flavour pro...
What a great idea!! You guy's should all get on the boat (Spirit of Tasmania) and check out the Tamar Valley and it's surrounding area's. We are only 40 minutes from Devonport and you will get too experience true cool climate wines. Fabulous Wines,Food and scenery for a start.
Welll here it start's I suppose. Spring started out quite nicely, warmish day's and mildish weather, so thing's were looking good generally. Then we came too the flowering part of the season and thing's went a bit pear shaped. We had a late start to the season with bud burst about a month later than the norm. When it came too flowering we copped wild wind's and very cold frosty type morning's. As a result bunch set was all over the show, lovely fruit and good bunch sizes in some protected area's and hen's & chicken's in other's. Having said that we will see some superb wines from the Tamar Valley this vintage. Due to the season being later it may well be a very tough year for Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz in term's of ripeness. Now we will just have to be patient and hope the weather hold's up for us all. Cheer's for now...Rob
