The multi-media global travelogue, The Corkscrew Diary, hosted by the Toasted Hostess, Deborah Gee is focusing her lens on Australia for the harvest of 2009. We are seeking insight from those in the Australian wine trade about destination estate vineyards. Curious to hear of you recommendations.

    More wine and social media

DAMN!  The entire Corkscrew Diary effort is focused on the growth of the wine industry - talk about it - show it - live it...

This whole wine appreciation thing seems to be a difficult road beyond that which leads to a cellar!

Thank you Monkey's, here, for your continued love of the craft!

    Cheers!

I've spent the last four plus years focusing on wine, wine people and wine place - all in the name of a global travelogue about wine and food by the name of The Corkscrew Diary.  The Toasted Hostess goes there, she tastes that, and she pairs cuisine and craftsmen in the midst of it all.

It has been downright confounding to explore the industry from bud to bottle shop.  Nothing is ever as easy as it seems.  Wine is a litigious business on a global scale beyond belief - taxes here, fees there... I am happiest, in the industry, speaking with the winemakers and hearing the trials and tales of vintages gone by - I must admire the fortitude of each to embrace the hurdles of commerce to afford a single bottle of their efforts to reach your table... phew!

I just feel a ramble coming on,....

And then, there's the exponential entree of vintners to the marketplace, vying for recognition, distribution and spots on the shelf of bottleshops all 'round the globe....   more fees, more marketing dollars - all for the same piece of pie.   I've heard of this refered to as a Red Ocean marketplace.  Everyone must feed upon each other, clawing for the same piece of the marketshare, elbowing for room in diminishing  global portals.  All of this to say, how do you distinguish your wine from the other guy?

Are you embracing social media to bring your product directly to the attention of consumers?

I invite you to visit Vintank.com - to read a recent study of Social Media and the industry of wine.

And then, I'd love to hear what your wine associations and tourism boards are doing to promote and distinguish your efforts to the rest of the globe.

Finally, take a peak at www.thecorkscrewdiary.tv - we are intent on capturing the story of the wines down under during the harvest of 2010...  we are looking for emblematic destination cellar doors to feature in our episodic endeavors....  might this be you?

Our goal is to bolster global oenotourism, and share an enjoyable romantic conversation about wine between the people of wine and the wine curious demographic we all raise our hopes and stems to.

    Cheers!

    Well, opinions are plentiful.

Standards for taste, appreciation and ajudication of qualities exist in the wine world to level the fields of thought across varied landscapes of terroir and juice - the learned amongst us will be the first to share the necessity of this "dollop of jelly in the mudpit".

I get it - but, I know what I like oft time differs from the distinctive pallet of the afficianado  - and, that is why I remain an "apprecianado" of the life, the world, the variety and the passions of wine.  And, if I like a wine enough to vest my time in sharing the joy ( or, sorrow) I have found in a particular wine experience, as unstandardized as my processes may be, what merit is acheived by assigning "danger" to my bliss?

Sure, a vintner embraces a solid review from an eloquent, informed patron of oenology.  However, that review is but a single piece in the successful release of a particular vintage, no greater or less than clever brand marketing, proper product distribution, or fates.

All of this to say - VIVA LA MONKEY!  You are providing a niche marriage of social media and the wines of Australia and New Zealand.  In this world of social media all-comers have voice, and ears and heart and choice...  This new wave may well be perceived as scarey or dangerous by some, but the tide is rising and your efforts are filled with right-minded energy and integrity...  you provide venue for all to embrace and share the one common element enjoyed by all - wine.

Really, Tony has run out of drinking buddies?  I suggest we all raise a stem to the man and thank him for being another voice enlivening the reach of Booze Monkey - CHEERS!
