More About Me

  • I love...
I'm not into Piña Coladas or getting caught in the rain: I love hot summer days lazing by the pool with a glass of red and a good book. And swimming in the ocean -- nothing makes you feel more alive than that.
  • Rants
I hate queues. And traffic lights. But only when they're on red. And I hate those people who stop at the lights and take the opportunity to pick their teeth or squeeze their zits in the rear-view mirror, like they're somehow invisible inside their car. What is wrong with you people?!
  • Favourite Wine
I have to admit to a preference for massive reds (and our winemakers do MASSIVE so well), but I am also partial to an exceptional white on occasion, particularly in the summer.

Recent stand-out favourites include Judge Rock Pinot Noir, Singlefile Estate Shiraz & Reserve Chardonnay, Grancari Shiraz (a huge wine) and ANYTHING that Brian Light puts into a bottle at Sylvan Springs: that man's a genius.

Bunnamagoo's stickies are to die for, Buller and Caught Redhanded produce some spectacular fortifieds, Moorooroo Park's Sparkling Shiraz is a cracker, as is the Vixen by Fox Creek. Talking of Fox Creek, their Reserve Shiraz is pretty special too, and so is Michael Petrucci's Sabella Reserve... amazing Shiraz.

If I had to choose an all-time favourite, it would be a real struggle. Wine's the sort of thing which changes depending on your mood, not just on what you're eating with it. But I have discovered two SUBLIME wines recently: the 2 Mates Shiraz is just amazing, peppery, jammy and full-flavoured, and the Penny's Hill Footprint Shiraz is jammy and earthy and... both of them big, bold, fruity, mouth-watering wines. Beautiful!

Seven months on and the winemakers clearly aren't impressed. A+ was an interesting idea, but as usual Wine Australia have failed to market or promote it properly. You can read the reaction of the winemakers here: they're clearly not impressed.

in the topic BoozeMonkey Online Sales :: WE NEED YOUR SUGGESTIONS! in the forum The Suggestion Box
An interesting idea, WineSale, but unfortunately a lot of the smaller winemakers just don't have the cash to build & maintain their own online ordering system. And to be honest, even if they did have the cash, the amount of traffic to most boutique wine sites doesn't justify the cost of implementation: they would never make a return on the thousands of dollars it would cost them to invest in their own sales system.

That's why we want to help.
