About Us
Mary Greer - Managing Director. Mary joined the McLaren Vale wine industry over 20 years ago and has held a position of Co. General Manager during a previous business 'Appointment' as well as Consultant Administrator to another prominent South Australian Wine Company. Mary, together with her husband John, own two of the most sought after vineyards in McLaren Vale. One block is planted with very mature Grenache and Shiraz Vines.
Reginald Wymond - Director. Reg was formerly Managing Director of a McLaren Vale wine company until its sale and subsequent listing on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1997. Reg, together with his wife Sue, own a pristine vineyard in McLaren Vale.
The key ingredient in producing quality wine is quality grapes and in particular a guaranteed supply of those grapes. Our own vineyards give us both quality and security of supply. Over 34 hectares of premium McLaren Vale vineyard provides us with ample supply of excellent fruit.
Our Area
McLaren Vale is home to fine wine, food and hospitality, and is the gateway to the magnificent Fleurieu Peninsula; a region entrenched with history. The region consistency produces fine wines from a number of varieties, most importantly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Only a half hours drive South of Adelaide is one of Australia's oldest winemaking regions. The township of McLaren Vale is central to this region, with Reynella and Clarendon to the North, Kangarilla on the Eastern Boundary, Aldinga on the coastal edge to the West, and in the South, Mount Compass and Sellicks Hill. The flats of the McLaren Vale are compared often with the Mediterranean climate, warm sunny days with fresh sea breezes from the nearby Gulf of St Vincent to temper high summer heats. Its proximity to the Mount Lofty Ranges sees the cool gully winds fall down from the hills in the late evening and early morning, chilling the grapes to retain crisp acidity and structure. Good winter rainfall (580-700mm) and low relative humidity ensure consistency of ripening and premium quality fruit. Frost is rare, as is rain before vintage. Long dry summers through to late autumn, with a mean January temperature of 21.7ºC and 1920 heat degree days, means McLaren Vale is considered one of the safest wine growing regions in Australia.
Our Winemaker
Internationally acclaimed Brian Light is McLaren Vale III Associate's Winemaker. Winner of the prestigious ‘Australasian Winemaker of the Year 1987/88’ and three times ‘Bushing King’, McLaren Vale’s highest award!
Brian has produced fine wine for over three decades and is among Australia’s most experienced and respected winemakers.

James Halliday Recommendation:
- Slightly deeper in colour than the Descendant; an undoubtly full-bodied wine,
with a peacock's tail display of blackberry fruit, dark chocolate and vanillan
oak, and with impecible balance and line, the finish supple... Rating 94!

James Halliday Recommendation: Strong crimson-purple; viewed against other
Squid Ink wines (present and past vintages), this is a particularly elegant and
harmonious wine, the regional black fruits given free expression, oak and
tannins with a lesser role... Rating 94!
