I have worked as both an educator and a seller of the greatest grape juice known to man. Seriously after graduating from Oenology and experiencing a vintage or two I have been involved in wine retail management & education for the big corporates, taught Academic English to postgraduates from China and English to the wonderful children of Japan and been part of many adventures in cuisine and wine from Kyoto to Sydney. I have photographed and written about various things 'inbetween'.
More About Me
Writing is a passion - speculative fiction and wine reviews particularly. I would like to direct more focus towards writing in Wine and would love some tips and possible some in-roads. Please. I feel my writing has matured beyond the angsty and off-beat rants of past (we all must start somewhere! :) ). I also am an avid photographer and love the subject matter I was spoil with having lived in Kobe and Kyoto over two years.
Rants. Oh Gee don't I indulge. Here goes cue the old skool punk music now.... I think we over indulge in NZ Passionfruit & Gooseberry driven syrups (they are not all of these of course) and know less about the Zudders exciting secrets - oaked Fumé styles, Gewurz' and Rieslings. I think we under-indulge as a Nation of Drinkers in the small boutique wine offerings. Beer should be taken more and less seriously. Wine Education in Australia as a WHOLE has a long way to go and I don't see the need for the UK to be 'our' standard - we should by now have OUR OWN 'WSET' our OWN wine education standards and qualifications - if we don't believe in ourselves it's our own fault. Green Day is NOT a punk band.
Eden Valley Shiraz. Biased by the beauty of Adelaide Hills and their wines ain't bad either. McLaren Vale offbeat stuff & Wine from the Osborn and the stripe gang. New World Barossa with its fringe varietals and voodoo..think Teusner & Tscharke, Punk wines by punks aka Some Young Punks, Wine from the Rutherglen illuminati, Anything from Italy, Whites from my 'heritage home' Alsace, Rieslings from Dr John - NZ, Gipsies from John, Vouvray Hooray!... anything edgy and different. Mass produced for the mediocre go away!
