About Us
Five Lazy Acres wines launched it's first wine in 2009, with 220 cases of the 2007 Bone Idle Shiraz. The wine is a labour of love from two old salty winedogs who have a combined 35 years of wine industry experience, in just about every capacity you can think of.
In a moment of madness Richard Smith (current winemaker/owner and viticulturist) purchased a 5 Acre vineyard in 2002. When wife (and partner in wine) Liz Blanks expressed concern that only the deranged or delusional buy vineyards, Richards' typically optimistic response was" Don't worry love, it's only Five Lazy Acres....no problems!!!
"Ahh" she mused " Dream of being Bone Idle on the vineyard do you??
One can only imagine how many times he has eaten those words!!!!
After 6 long years of taming an overproductive and unruly vineyard it was declared the fruit had finally reached the standard of quality desired for bottling under their own label. Whilst the first three vintages were made in consultation with contract winemakers, 2011 saw the launch of their very own "Garage Winery" on the vineyard, where Richard and Liz will finally take the reins.

Our Area
The Five Lazy Acres Mob lives on the vineyard where they grow the grapes that make the wine, in the renowned wine region of Mclaren Vale. Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the vineyard clad Vale, their "boutique" vineyard lies on an ancient sea bed a mere 10 kms from the spectacular Fleurieu coastline. This position allows for a long ripening season with sea breezes often cooling down the vines. The sandy soil profile is quite distinct from the typical clay soils often seen in the Mclaren Vale. As a result the wines have a unique aromatic nose and an elegant mouthfeel.
