Company Information

  • About Us
We are a family owned winery with
estate owned and managed vineyards located within the Limestone Coast wine regions of Coonawarra and Wrattonbully, famed for terra rossa soil over limestone bedrock. Best practice viticulture techniques such as minimal spraying, organic composting, and canopy management are employed.
All the hard vineyard work ensures that the fruit for our wines is full of flavour, allowing minimal winemaker intervention. Our wines display typical varietal characteristics of a cool climate region and are made using traditional winemaking techniques such as extended contact on skins, gentle maceration, slow fermentation and minimal fining.

    Patrick of Coonawarra
Our Patrick wines are a premium range currently comprised of Riesling, Aged Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Patrick has an exceptional reputation for producing Rieslings of merit, ranging from a Kabinett or off dry style through to dry. The accolades and medals just keep on coming!
Our full bodied red wines are matured in superior quality tightly grained French and American oak barrels, often for between 18 and 40 months. Delayed release to market ensures wine with a wonderful structure and smooth, fine tannin finish. Our premium Cabernets in particular will benefit from further cellaring.

    Mother of Pearl
The Mother of Pearl wines are a varietal driven range designed for immediate enjoyment. With a growing reputation for both quality and value the range is comprised of a Sparkling NV Chardonnay Pinot, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot.
  • Our Area
Coonawarra is renowned as one of Australia's finest wine regions and is particularly known for producing world class red wines especially Cabernet Sauvignon. Its secret lies in a magical marriage of rich red terra rossa soil, limestone, pure underground water and a long cool ripening season for the grapes. Today, Coonawarra vineyard land is prized like a precious gem. The cigar-shaped strip of 'terra rossa' is finite, only 12km long and 2km wide, and is all but taken up by vineyards. More than 24 Coonawarra wineries have cellar door sales outlets, mostly open seven days a week (except Christmas Day) and you will be warmly welcomed for tastings. The Coonawarra Vignerons Association plays host to several exciting events throughout the year. In January, The Coonawarra Cup will be contested at the Coonawarra Vignerons race meeting. The lights of vintage will be on in April as we celebrate vintage at Coonawarra After Dark. There are cultural activities and exhibitions all year round but brilliantly showcased in the Penola/Coonawarra Arts Festival in May. During the winter month of July our cellar door sales offer rare back vintage tastings of Coonawarra wines for Coonawarra Cellar Dwellers. The year reaches its pinnacle in October when Coonawarra winemakers submit their 'best' barrel of Cabernet for the 'Barrel Series' charity auction supported by an array of 'Cellarbrations' by individual wineries held as part of the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebration weekend. There is something for all visitors to experience when making the journey to Coonawarra. Continue through this website to discover more about our region, our community, the wines, accommodation options, regional activities and more.
  • Our Winemaker
Patrick of Coonawarra was established in 2004 by celebrated winemaker Pat Tocaciu. During his extensive career working as a Chief Winemaker, he cemented his reputation for quality and helped secure international accolades for several major labels. Now, the focus has switched to fulfilling a more personal goal in the establishment of the family owned and operated Patrick of Coonawarra:
"It’s always a winemaker’s dream to complete the story – to grow, make and sell your own produce...I feel an enormous sense of accomplishment."
Pat’s son Luke has now joined the business after completing studies in Oenology at Adelaide University and vintages in Clare, Barossa, Coonawarra and Sonoma USA. His ‘young gun’ perspective ensures the company’s wines remain relevant, able to adapt to new trends and audiences.

in the topic The Real Stories Behind Vintage 2009 in the forum Wine Chat

Things have been a bit quiet so far this vintage in the Coonawarra. Picked the last of our whites last night! Our reds are a little way off at this stage. Vintage is proberly running on scedule time wise but after last year where we picked Riesling and Shiraz in the same day it seems a little slow. Our Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Chardonnay all look good in the tank and we cant wait to have a play with them. I will try to post some pictures when the reds start peeling off.

    Bye for now!
