About Us
Windrush is a boutique, premium wine producer at Mount Barker, in the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia. Owners David & Caroline Picton-King produce premium shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay fruit which deliver exquisite wines.We planted our first vines in 2000 and make Windrush Wines in traditional styles, as well as exciting variations such as a shiraz rosé, and cabernet sauvignon as a 'Blanc de Noir'.Although not certified 'organic', we believe in using organic principles as much as possible- such as fish fertlisers and seaweed extracts applied to the vines rather than 'chemical' additives, and a total ban on pesticides- instead we have a team of 100 Guinea Fowl who patrol the vineyard cleaning out any insect pests!We are proud of the numerous medals earned by our wines- visit our website to see our medal tally!As well as the vineyard and cellar sales, we offer great dining at The Vineyard Café- providing delicious morning and afternoon teas, gourmet lunches and the renowned Cake Board- dessert delights!We would love to welcome you to the cellar and café to enjoy our premium wines- or contact us to discuss mail order sales by phone or via our website- www.windrushwines.com.au.
Our Area
Mount Barker W.A. is classic cool climate grape country- our vineyard is high on a hill overlooking Mount Barker, and the Hay River valley. Our ancient soils comprise gravelly loam over friable clay, sitting on weathered granite outcrops. This mineral-rich soil contributes to our intense and rich fruit which has distinct varietal characters.Planted on north-facing slopes, and increasingly dry grown, our vines produce classic Mount Barker premium wine!
Grape Varieties
Shiraz- made in traditional style as well as a delightful rosé.Chardonnay- two different clones which deliver rich varietal flavours and intensity.Cabernet Sauvignon- again, traditional style and also a crisp and refreshing 'Blanc de Noir' white wine from Black grapes.
