Appearance Medium bodied crimson cherry red. Well spaced thin legs remain after a good swirl. Nose or Smell Okay wow, where do I start. Plush ripe blueberry, strawberry and sweet cherry with subtle licorice and vanilla bean. Minty aromas become evident after a vigorous swirl followed by xmas pudding and a little bit of candied pineapple. This is the kind of wine that has a seriously classy aroma, one that is almost better than the flavours...almost. Flavour Racy acidity is picked up straight away, followed by some serious jubey berry fruit and spice. Mint is also on the palate which is finished off with a lingering creamy vanilla bean flavour from top quality oak. Great line of acid. Excellent medium body expected from Merlot which dances around your tongue. Fine, yet grippy, tannin structure which covers your gums. A truly great drink from what I believe to be the best region for the variety. Overall Impression Outstanding wine, medium bodied with great acid making this a true food wine, which will partner well with any pork dish. I had some pork loin sprinkled with fennel and carraway seeds. Delicious. But what was even better was the fruit cheese and muscatels after the meal. Cellaring potential minimum 5 years from now.
