Caught Redhanded :: McLaren Vale Wine Sale
Overall Impression
Review by Alex Berry - Shepparton News Weekend Life: Kinloch 2005 Mary Friend: Cabernet Sauvignon (45 per cent), Cabernet Franc (35 per cent), Merlot (20 per cent). Blends are often overlooked by some consumers when considering serving with a meaty main course. Kinloch’s Mary Friend (named after the grandmother to Malcolm Kinloch) is an excellent blend able to compete with varietals of any depth. A medium-bodied wine with heaps of oak combining with up-front fruit, it almost completely dries the mouth and fills it with rich berry flavours which then soften to a subtle eucalypt mint on the finish. At about $30 a bottle, it can be considered a little expensive for a blend, but definitely not for a gold medal-winning wine of this quality. Cellar for eight years plus and drink with any red meat dishes or spicy red sauce pasta.
