Rich and almost jammy, the palate displays stewed fruits including plums and rhubarb. Blackcurrants mingle with spice and its all a bit like Christmas mince pies. Tannins have lightly settled with bottle maturation and even for me – careful cellaring. Although I daresay it should go down longer. But what can I say? I like the kick in the teeth of a younger wine.

Bright, fresh berry flavours of raspberry and strawberry but with a little sharp rhubarbiness (yes, that's a word...), though none of the earthiness you might associate with a big Spanish Rioja: this is a bright, young Tempranillo blend which is meant to be drunk NOW while it's young and fresh, not cellared for 20 years and brought out for the birth of your grandchildren.

This is a great Pinot Gris. And that's saying something because I'm generally not a big fan of Pinot Gris. Not because I don't like the grape itself, but because it is so rarely done well. Pinot Gris tends to be flat, flabby and dull. But the Nazaaray is an exception to the rule. And it is an exceptional example of a Pinot Gris done well. Great flavour, balanced acidity and good length too. Great on its own or with food. Beautiful.

Quite amazing, the deep intense flavours you get on young vintages has evolved into a sublime lip smacking wine delicate but fruit intense wine. Reminds me of the old fashioned raspberry ripple ice cream.

This wine is now drinking perfectly, it has aged with grace, and is a wonderfull example of how McLaren Vale Shiraz can be seductive, focused and so velvety smooth with time. Deep ripe english blackberries, hints of mocha aromas, what really shines here is the lingering taste on the palate, the delicacy of the fruit, so balanced and slips down so easily - a fantastic wine.

Perfumed and sweet, this rosé has a delicate strawberry palate with a little sour cherry on the back end adding interest and length. I particularly like the floral aspect from the Viognier which adds depth to the wine: some rosés can be a bit samey, but the Jamabro Sunset Rosé stands out from the crowd.

Cracking palate, clean and bright with peircing intensity. Great tannic structure, underlying plums and cherries and the well integrated oak has just enough presence to impart additional layers....bloody ripper!

Great value for money, depth and complexity over delivers all the way! The wine shows what is best about McLaren Vale when done right. Depth of fruit, not too sweet and the more savoury characters coming to the fore. Well done Phil.

A harmonious wine with a solid length. This would be my choice of Coonawarra's Cabernet / Shiraz every day drinking variety for 2008. If you like smooth low oak wines this is for you. Goes well with kalamata olives and edam cheese. Even after a couple of days this wine performs exactly as if you have just opened it for the first time.

Hunter River Wine Company Reserve Shiraz Durif 2007 ::: Australian Wine Review

The first sip is lovely, with the palate being submerged by jube like stewed berry fruits. Quite a deep full flavoured wine, with some savoury 'Hunter' characteristics but mostly dominated by vibrant fruit. Pretty easy going on the tannins with only slight grip. Nice low alcohol making it pretty easy sipping, and really well balanced for cellaring as are most Hunter reds.

A great wine for the price. Loaded with fruits making it a great red for the warmer months but would still easily go well in the deep of winter with a hardy stew. I do also think this would have some cellaring potential, minimum 5 years from vintage and would still be drinking well in 2015. Enjoy with cheeses, and gentler red meats like Lamb.

Very elegant and complete wine- Will be better in 1-3 years as it ages but great summer drinking- suggest a chill in the fridge. Will go well at BBQ's, with slightly sweet and spicy dishes and superb with curry meals. Had it with a capsicum pesto and a block of parmesan- it was divine.

Grass, bacon and bitterness may not sound like the sort of thing you would want in your wine, but it all works very nicely together and produces a very interesting Sauvignon Blanc. The smoky bacon characteristics lend it well to food pairing with lightly smoked turkey or ham. Not your usual citrussy Aussie Sauv Blanc.

Juicy plum, blackcurrant and blackberry palate, with dry French oak. Powdery tannins, nice balance and reasonable length. A good wine with pizza, pasta or steak, this is a juicy, medium-bodied, dark fruit wine with enough fruit intensity and acidity to cut through a juicy steak or to match well with any tomato-based Italian dish.

A very fruity wine with excellent strawberry, cherry, raspberry and red apple flavours. Light and refreshing with good acid and a clean, dry red apple skin aftertaste.

Phil Rogers, the winemaker, tells me this is a new blend of his 2009 Cabernet Rosé and it is quite obvious as soon as you open the bottle. The original blend had a lot more apple and there was a a certain amount of bitterness on the finish. This new version is much sweeter on the palate with lots of juicy red berry flavour, and whilst the red apple flavour is still there, it is not as strong.

Quite a heavily-oaked Chardonnay with fairly light tropical fruit flavours of melon, pineapple and nectarine. A little unbalanced for my palate, but then I'm not into heavily oaked whites.

A juicy, fruity palate of plum and blackcurrant. There is also chocolate on the mid palate and the dustiness from the nose comes through too. The tannins are powdery and a little chalky, suggesting that this wine will improve still further with bottle ageing. The wine has great balance and a long, deep fruity finish.

I’m tasting this unlabelled because it hasn’t been bottled yet, but even as a barrel sample it is already a powerful, well-balanced wine with excellent flavour and great length. It will improve with cellaring of course, and a few years from now it will be huge. Absolutely HUGE! If you want to follow the progress of a great wine, buy a case of the Caught Redhanded ’08 Shiraz today, drink one when it arrives, then drink one every Christmas till the case is empty. And I guarantee you’ll kick yourself that you didn’t have the foresight to buy TWO cases when you had the chance. It’s that good.

This medium bodied Margaret River red is a seriously smart little wine. Well and truly punches above it's price point and represents just how good wines from Australia can really be at around $15 - $20. Deep Woods is a winery I have only just become interested in. I saw a review of the Deep Woods Resrve Margaret River Cabernet which really impressed me so I took a closer look at their portfolio. This is the first wine that I have tried so far and I am more than impressed. Deep Woods is a winery under the ownership of Fogarty Wine Group which also owns Lakes Folly and Millbrook both from WA. And it seems that this wine company believes more in quality rather than quantity. Something which comes at a bit of a premium these days.

This is a very nice, light Sauvignon Blanc, not as strongly-flavoured as some New Zealand S/B's but all the better for it: it ends up being quite a delicate wine. Good with shellfish or with plain grilled fish: something like Barramundi.

This is our favourite Gewurztraminer. A trophy winner at the NZ Easter Show Awards, and the first sip explains why. Mouthfilling, fragrant pears, quince, and honey along with turkish delight. Finishes sweet but balanced with aromatic spice. A very well made Gewurztraminer that goes perfectly with Thai, or we find it an excellent aperitif as well...

This wine has lovely fruits of pear and hints of quince. It almosts starts a little sweet but has a lovely acidic thread through the length of the wine that balances the fruit sweetness and residual sugar (which is fairly low). The finish is smooth, mouthfilling and crisp - all at the same time. A magic wine that is worth it's premium price. One of our favourites.

This is a really fantastic Syrah. It is dense, full in the mouth, and carries it's 14.5% alcohol extremely well. Needs to be left a little while to open up (or decanted), but rewards with rich dark fruits - plums and blackcurrants, complemented by black pepper and spice. Firm tannins provide grip down the side of the palate and on to an incredible length. Stunning value too for such a quality NZ Syrah
